Cologne's Oldtown, Memorials and the Gürzenich

Cologne's Old Town is characterised by its quaint and innumerable small pubs. Especially here, the Cologne way of life is lived and can be experienced in the pubs. Enjoy the specialities such as a freshly tapped Kölsch or a "Halven Hahn".

You can stroll along the Rhine in the old town and admire its panorama. For example, with a view of the Hohenzollern Bridge. It has become a tradition that lovers attach a castle to the bridge with engraved names and throw the key into the Rhine - a sign of their eternal love. The bridge is also decorated with two equestrian monuments. On the left side of the Rhine the German Emperor Frederick III. and on the right side of the Rhine the last emperor of Germany Wilhelm II. both were kings of Prussia. There is also another equestrian statue, which represent King of Prussia Wilhelm III. on the Heumark.

The Alter Markt and the Heumarkt used to be one large and lively trading center, which over the years split into two marketplaces. From the Old Market Square you can also see the historical town hall. In addition, you will soon reach the famous "Heinzelmännchenbrunnen", which tells the legend that little males do the work of the lazy people at night.

On the opposite side of the Old Market Square you will reach the Gürzenich, a late Gothic building from 1447. Today it is a popular venue for events.

In the many small alleys, the restaurants, cafés and pubs invite you to stay.

Eau de Cologne

A city with its own scent? This is Cologne. In 1708 an Italian created the Au de Cologne, which reminded him of his homeland. Over the years with entanglement and theft of the recipe, or not, the Eau de Cologne still exists today and two museums are dedicated to it.

Please note that you can only visit both museums in connection with a guided tour.
